Celebrating Our Original Fan: John Rasinger (OPA)
Every great hockey academy has its heroes. Some wear skates and jerseys. Others wear pride, loyalty, and heart. Today, we proudly celebrate one of the most important members of our family — John Rasinger, affectionately known as OPA — the Original Fan.
OPA is the devoted husband of Joan Rasinger and the proud grandfather of our J18 captain, Ryan Murphy. His love for hockey has always been strong, but his love for family is even stronger. Through every practice, every game, and every milestone in Ryan’s journey, OPA has been there — steady, supportive, and proud.
This season, Ryan made a deeply meaningful decision. He requested to wear #90 on his jersey in honor of his grandfather’s 90th birthday. It’s more than a number — it’s a tribute to the man who has supported him every step of the way.
The Original Fan of the Montreal Knights
OPA has been a dedicated fan of Ryan, of hockey, and of the Montreal Knights since the very beginning. He represents everything we value as an academy: loyalty, passion, commitment, and heart.
Win or lose, early mornings or late nights — OPA has always believed in our players. His presence reminds us that hockey is about more than competition. It’s about family, community, and shared memories.
A Hoodie with Meaning
To honor OPA and show our respect, our academy created a special hoodie for all of our players. While it’s not worn on the ice, it’s worn proudly everywhere else — to the rink, during team activities, travel days, and around the community.
On the left side, over the heart, it reads:
OPA 90 — ORIGINAL FAN
Every player in the academy wears it as a badge of honor. It’s a symbol of gratitude and unity. It represents respect for a man who has given so much encouragement to so many young athletes.
More Than a Fan — Part of Our Family
OPA, we are incredibly proud and grateful to have you as part of our academy. Your dedication to Ryan, your love for the game, and your unwavering support for our players make you truly special.
You are not just our Original Fan — you are part of the foundation of who we are.
Happy 90th Birthday, OPA. 🏒
